Uplink Sensing in Perceptive Mobile Networks With Asynchronous Transceivers

Perceptive mobile network (PMN) is a recently proposed next-generation that integrates radar sensing into communications. One major challenge for realizing in PMNs how to deal with spatially-separated asynchronous transceivers. The asynchrony between receiver and transmitter will cause both timing offsets (TOs) carrier frequency (CFOs) lead degraded accuracy ranging velocity measurements. In this paper, we propose an uplink scheme transceivers, targeting at resolving the ambiguity improving accuracy. We first adopt cross-antenna cross-correlation (CACC) operation remove associated TOs CFOs. Without ambiguity, actual propagation delay Doppler of multiple targets can be obtained using CACC outputs. To exploit redundancy outputs reduce complexity, then novel mirrored-MUSIC algorithm, which halves number unknown parameters estimated, obtain values delays frequencies. Finally, high-resolution angles-of-arrival (AoAs) estimation jointly processes all measurements from spatial, temporal, domains. AoAs algorithm achieve significantly higher than samples spatial domain only. also derive theoretical mean-square-error algorithms. Numerical results are provided validate effectiveness scheme.
